The Prenatal Experience: 3D & 4D Ultrasound

Frequent Questions About 3D & 4D Ultrasound

What is an elective prenatal ultrasound?

An elective 3D/4D ultrasound is a prenatal ultrasound meant to provide a proactive, positive bonding experience for the mother, father and family members with the unborn baby. Realistic surface images provide a connection between the parents and baby that can be beneficial to the whole family.

Does this take the place of an ultrasound at my doctor's office?

ABSOLUTELY NOT! Clients receiving an ultrasound from The Prenatal Experience must be under current prenatal care of a healthcare provider. Confirmation of prenatal care will be required at the time of your appointment as well. At no time are the ultrasounds performed at our facility to be used for diagnostic purposes.

Is it safe? Are there any risks to me, or my baby?

Ultrasound has been performed and studied for over 30 years during which time no conclusive evidence has shown any harm to baby or mother. In 3D/4D imaging, the same type and intensity of ultrasound is used as the conventional 2D scanning. A probe placed on the body emits sound waves into the body, listens for the return echo and generates an image. 4D ultrasound will be similar to a conventional scan in terms of sound exposure.

Do I need an appointment?

An appointment must be booked prior to your arrival.

How long does the 4D ultrasound take?

Though scan time does not exceed 30 minutes, plan on spending up to an hour with us; so, we can select and print your favorite photos from the session.

How far along should I be before I have a 4D ultrasound?

If you plan on having only one 4D ultrasound session, we would recommend having the ultrasound performed between the 27th and 34th week of the pregnancy.  However, excellent images of your baby can be obtained anytime after about 24 weeks of pregnancy. Many mothers obtain more than one 4D ultrasound and have images to enjoy from their second and third trimesters (Expectant mothers that are full-figured should schedule their 3D/4D ultrasound between 30-34 weeks of pregnancy, as the images tend to be clearer.  Expectant mothers of twins or multiples should consider scheduling their 3D/4D ultrasound between 24-27 weeks of pregnancy.).

Will I always get a beautiful picture of my baby?

Usually, but not always. Sometimes factors that we cannot control can affect the clarity of the images such as amniotic fluid levels, fetal position, and maternal obesity.

Can I bring my family and friends?

Yes. In fact, we encourage our clients to invite family and friends. This is a joyous and wonderful experience, one that can be shared with your family and loved ones.

Is the 4D ultrasound covered by Insurance?

At this point, insurance does not cover the costs of our ultrasounds. Payment is expected at the time of your appointment. We accept cash, MasterCard, Visa, and debit cards.

What kind of ultrasound equipment do you use to perform the 3D/4D ultrasounds?

We use the Siemens NX3 Elite system to complete all ultrasound sessions.

How much does it cost?

We have packages to fit just about anyone's budget. Please refer to our Ultrasound Pricing page for more information on available packages.

Who performs the ultrasound?

At our facility, all ultrasounds are performed either by medically licensed personnel or by registered sonographers.

Is there anything I can do to increase the clarity of my 3D/4D Ultrasound photos?

Yes. Medical providers recommend that pregnant women drink 8-10 glasses of plain water a day during their pregnancy. We encourage you to drink 8-10 glasses of plain water a day for at least 3 days before your ultrasound appointment.

"The pictures and video turned out great, and we can't wait to show all of our friends. And we got a surprise! Our 'girl' of the past two months isn't a girl after-all, but is a boy! So what a day full of excitement we had!

We will be sure to send you pictures when our beautiful baby is born!"

Thank you soooo much!
